Fraser: I love it here
Fresh from scoring his first Saints goal, Ryan Fraser has declared his wish to remain on the south coast beyond this season.
On loan from Newcastle for the remainder of the campaign, the 29-year-old scored a dramatic stoppage time winner to earn Russell Martin’s side victory at Hull on Saturday.
Having made nine appearances since swapping St James’ Park for St Mary’s, the Scotsman revealed he’s refound his love for football since becoming a Saint.
Speaking after full time on Saturday, he said: “I love it. I just love it here. I love coming in each day and just loving football again is nice. I just try to get as much as I can each day when I come in and try and wear the badge with as much pride as I can and I just love it.
“I try to give as much as I can each day, try not to waste a second while I come and at the end of the season, hopefully I can stay. That’s the main goal to stay at the club, but there’s little goals to get there and try and help and first and foremost is to help the club get promoted.
With Fraser’s goal at the weekend lifting Saints up into the play-off places, Fraser believes things are starting to gel.
“We want to be first,” he said. “We want to get there at the end of the season and we want to be there now, but it’s not there right now. We’re fifth and we just need to take each game as it comes this week, because we know it’s a massive week. If we can try and get as many points this week then things look a lot different than what it was before the international break.
“I think we’re starting to come together now, we’re using the whole squad, the manager believes in us all and you look at the boys that come on, the boys that start, it’s never the same team week-in, week-out so we’re going to need everyone and everyone will be ready.”
