Eckert nominated by EFL for third month in a row
Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert has been nominated by the EFL for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for the third month running.
Saints remain unbeaten in the league since January, and Eckert, who won the trophy in February and March, is once again on the four-man shortlist for the April award.
Saints’ relentless schedule saw them play six Championship games during the month, winning four and drawing two, alongside high-profile Emirates FA Cup clashes against Arsenal and Manchester City.
Saints scored at least twice in every league game and racked up 16 goals in total, including a statement 5-1 win at fellow promotion hopefuls Wrexham.
A dramatic late victory at Swansea made it eight consecutive wins in all competitions, before a pair of 2-2 draws with Bristol City and Ipswich that left the Tractor Boys in pole position to secure the second automatic promotion place behind Coventry.
Those results extended Saints’ unbeaten run in the league to 18 matches, which was later extended to 19 with Saturday’s final-day triumph at Preston.
Eckert is joined on the shortlist by Frank Lampard (Coventry), Michael O’Neill (Blackburn) and John Mousinho (Portsmouth), with the winner to be decided by an EFL judging panel and announced on Friday.
