Charles' Oxford stunner nominated for Goal of the Month
Southampton have received another nomination in the EFL’s March awards, with Shea Charles up for Goal of the Month.
Following nominations for Player of the Month for Daniel Peretz and Manager of the Month for Tonda Eckert, who won the award for the second month in succession, Charles’ spectacular strike against Oxford is on the Sky Bet Championship’s four-goal shortlist.
Running on to the ball laterally from Cameron Archer’s cutback following a short corner, Charles improbably wrapped his right foot around it to send a curling shot soaring into the top corner after it initially looked to be travelling way outside of the goalkeeper’s left-hand post.
Rival goals on the shortlist include long-range efforts from Swansea’s Liam Cullen and Watford’s Nestory Irankunda, as well as an acrobatic volley from Millwall’s Luke Cundle.
Saints fans are invited to vote for Shea’s St Mary’s stunner, with voting open via the EFL website until 5pm BST on Monday 13th April. Supporters' votes will be combined with the choices from a panel to determine the winner.
Saints are back in action at St Mary's on Saturday when play-off rivals Derby County are the visitors (3pm BST). Tickets start from £25 for Adults and £15 for Juniors.
