Charles on "incredible night"
Southampton's late hero Shea Charles produced the goods again in the play-off semi-final second leg, creating another night to remember for the St Mary's faithful.
Charles booked Saints' second visit to Wembley this season, as his extra-time cross swerved all the way into the far corner to ensure that Tonda Eckert's side beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in front of an exceptional atmosphere.
Middlesbrough had taken the lead early on through Riley McGree before Ross Stewart equalised in first half stoppage time as the game threatened to go the distance, despite Saints' dominance, until Charles' late winner.
"It's hard to put into words really, it was just an incredible night, you know, a really good game of football and a long one as well, so thankfully we came out on top in the end." the midfielder assessed.
Reflecting on the scenes after he watched the ball nestle in the corner of the Northam end net, Charles said: "It was incredible, I really wanted to knee slide or belly slide, but I couldn't, I actually couldn't! I just fell and then I just got piled on, so Breezy had to help me get up.
"It was just an incredible moment and then we still had maybe five or six minutes to defend, and the boys at the back did incredible.
"We've got a really good squad, the depth is incredible really and we've worked so well. Whether you're starting games, coming on and affecting the game that way, everyone's just doing their role and with that together as a team, it's just been working so well, so, you know, credit to all the boys."
