Having signed on loan for the remainder of the season, David Brooks revealed his excitement at joining Saints in their bid for promotion.

The winger arrives from south coast rivals Bournemouth and admits to being thrilled by the prospect of fitting into Russell Martin’s side.

“I’m really happy,” the Wales international began. “With the past couple of years with my situation, just to come here and try and get some game time, I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get started.

“The gaffer was a big part to play, speaking to him and how he wants to play and obviously I can see that it’s working, and his style of play is very attractive on the eye and it’s kind of a player’s dream to get involved with something like that, so yeah, probably that was the main reason.

“I don’t watch every single game in the Championship, but I have been keeping an eye on certain teams and like I say, the style of football and results have been going your way and for me looking in on it from the outside, it’s something I want to be a part of.

“Once I got a little bit of a sniff that I might be coming here you start watching games and kind of seeing where you’d fit in, and the amount of chances the front players get is very attractive and obviously I like scoring and creating goals so hopefully I can do that for you boys.”

Having previously won promotion from the Championship with the Cherries, the 26-year-old is looking for history to repeat itself.

“Been a long road to kind of get back and I’ve done a lot of training to get to a point where I can play games and that’s the aim now, to get on the pitch and do it in front of the crowds and in the stadiums and the more games the better and hopefully I can be a part of all of them.

“That’s the aim [to win promotion]. I’ve not come here literally just to get minutes, I want to get a promotion, hopefully a winner’s medal and hopefully help the boys get back into the Premier League.”
