Goalscorer David Brooks said there were mixed emotions in the Southampton dressing room, following the dramatic late win at Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Saints were behind inside 120 seconds through Köji Miyoshi's strike, before Adam Armstrong levelled 16 minutes later.

The hosts went into the break ahead once more thanks to Jay Stansfield, before goals from Ché Adams and Brooks seemed to turn the game on its head.

Now at 10-men, Birmingham somehow sourced an equaliser with 12 minutes to go, but Joe Aribo made sure of all three points for Saints in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

"It’s a little bit mixed [in the changing room]," said the scorer of Saints' second. "Obviously we’re really excited and really happy we managed to get the three points in the end but conceding three is not what we want to do.

"So we’ll be trying to put that right but obviously the boys are buzzing. Three points on the board and at the business end of the season so can’t complain.

"I think we dominated the whole game, really. Four goals away from home is obviously a really fantastic achievement. We played some really lovely stuff, it’s just some small errors that made it a bit more dicey towards the end. But the boys deserved the three points so I’m really happy we got it.

"Ever since I’ve got here, and it was there before, I fully believe that even if we go down we’re still going to win the game and create chances. So it was just about doing the things that the gaffer wants and playing right and the chances will come. Today we got the chances and thankfully we put them away.

"We’ve got Leicester and Leeds to play still. As I said, it’s the business end of the season so the three points [for us] are the most important thing, but we’ll try and chase them as best we can. As long as we do what we do I think we’ll be alright."
