Brereton Díaz: I'm feeling good
A positive Ben Brereton Díaz described a "very positive" night at St Mary's, which saw the Chilean score five minutes into his first Southampton start against Lazio.
The quick-fire goal was a result of a strong team move, which saw Charly Alcaraz win back possession in midfield before Brereton Díaz nestled the ball into the bottom, far corner after cutting inside.
Lazio's equaliser was a fine effort too, an acrobatic volley courtesy of Valentin Castellanos just past the half hour mark.
For Saints newest recruit, it was a productive night as the side gained their first minutes of pre-season at their St Mary's home.
"I really enjoyed myself out there in front of the Saints fans and playing with the players for the second time," he said. "I only played with them once for a little bit against Millwall, but I enjoyed it and I'm happy to get a goal.
"It was a good team goal, good possession of the ball. I think Charly won it back in the midfield, being aggressive, and just happy to get the goal which was nice, but it was all-round a good team performance and I thought we showed very positive stuff.
"It's a top, top group, some great people, players, staff and I've really enjoyed myself. I've only been here a week but settled in really nicely thanks to the players and the staff. So it's been a good week and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
"There's definitely a bigger excitement in the dressing room, the boys are looking forward to that first Premier League game. It'll be a good atmosphere away at Newcastle so it's something we've got to be prepared for. But I've been here a week and the boys have been brilliant, so I've got no worries about that. I think we'll do a great job."
