On his first Saints appearance of the season, James Bree feels Saints should have come away with all three points from the south coast derby at Fratton Park.

The full-back, who returned from a loan spell at Charlton Athletic last week, was handed a starting berth in the first league meeting between the two sides in Portsmouth since 2011.

Ahead thanks to Leo Scienza’s opener after the break, Tonda Eckert’s side were pegged back in the closing stages through Ebou Adams to force a second draw between the two sides this season.

Reflecting on his return to the side and the derby draw, Bree said: "I think the atmosphere was really good. Our fans were unbelievable.

“I think we're really disappointed not to take the three points, because although it was a scrappy game, I think we were the better team in the end. I think if we finished our chances, we probably should have gone on to win that at least by two, and again, it's really annoying to concede from a set-piece, but nice to come straight back into it, but obviously disappointed not to get three points.

“I think Arma had a couple of chances in the first half which I’ve seen him score many times before. We created a few even though the game was scrappy, we did create chances, so a little bit annoyed.

“We knew it was going to be scrappy, like I said, so fight and then the quality would show through. We could have got on the ball a little bit more at times, but like I said, we always knew it was going to be a fight and I think we did that well.

“It felt like after we scored it didn't feel in the game like they were going to score. It felt like we were solid, it felt like we were holding things pretty well, so like I said, annoying that it's come from a set-piece because from open play it probably didn't feel like they were creating anything or putting us under real pressure.”

Backed by a raucous away end, Bree was also appreciative of the travelling support.

“They [the fans] were top, they were already in there when we came straight into the ground, so they were singing us in and stuff and it was really good.

“I think it got you straight into it because they were chanting and they were so loud in the whole game, so yeah, it was disappointing that we couldn't get three points for them, but they were unbelievable.”
