Jan Bednarek completed the full 90 minutes as Poland narrowly lost out to the Netherlands in an entertaining encounter in Hamburg.

Named in the starting 11 as part of a Polish back five, Michał Probierz's side made the dream start when Adam Buksa rose highest to head home Piotr Zieliński's cross.

Having gone a goal down, the Netherlands - managed by former Saints manager Ronald Koeman - put the pressure on and after twice going close equalised through a deflected Cody Gakpo strike.

Level at the break, Poland weathered an early Dutch storm after the restart before Wout Weghorst, introduced just two minutes earlier, grabbed a winner inside the final 10 minutes with a smart finish from close range.

Poland will next be in action on Friday against Austria, who begin their campaign against France on Monday night.
