Adam Armstrong has been crowned Southampton Men’s First Team Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Season.

The 20-goal striker narrowly pipped midfield enforcer Flynn Downes to the top prize from the fans, with Kyle Walker-Peters finishing third in the vote, which took place on the Saints app for the first time.

Armstrong’s 33 goal contributions (20 goals, 13 assists) is the highest total in England’s top two divisions, while the forward has also established himself as a leader, having been appointed vice-captain this season and regularly worn the armband in the absence of Jack Stephens.

Reflecting on his double award, the forward said: “It’s been amazing. This season, for myself, has been excellent, but I couldn’t do it without these boys (his teammates). They’ve helped us get as many goals and assists as I could possibly get.

“We’re in a great position. We’ve got a couple of weeks now to settle down and get ready for the play-offs, and we’ll need the fans right behind us. Now let’s get to Wembley and the Premier League.”
