Adam Armstrong is relishing a crack at “the biggest game in football” after Southampton booked their place in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final at Wembley.

The striker was Saints’ two-goal hero in Friday night’s memorable 3-1 victory over West Brom, taking his tally to 23 for the season.

It means the 27-year-old now gets the chance to play at the national stadium for the very first time, as Saints face off against a Leeds side they’ve already beaten twice this season on Sunday afternoon for a place in the Premier League.

“It’s a trip to Wembley, it’ll be my first time, so I’m really excited for that. Let’s enjoy this moment,” he said, speaking after Friday’s win.

“We’ve obviously played Leeds twice this season and done well, and we can only take confidence from that.

“The boys are going to recover over the next couple of days and get ready to go into a huge game – probably the biggest in football – and we’ve got to thrive off these moments.

“I said to the lads last week that these occasions might not come around again. The chance to play at Wembley is unbelievable, and it’ll be even better if we can do it.”
