Southampton Football Club welcomed global investment platform eToro as a new Official Partner in August 2018.
The partnership, which was renewed ahead of the 2019/20 season, will see eToro pay the club using the cryptocurrency bitcoin, in one of a series of landmark deals with a range of Premier League sides.
The company, which has a worldwide network of more than ten million registered users, provides people with the opportunity to invest in cryptoassets, as well as more traditional stocks and commodities.

Iqbal V. Gandham, the UK managing director at eToro, said: “We are excited to be partnering with Southampton and make history by being the first company ever to pay for a Premier League partnership in bitcoin. This is very much the first small step on a long road to football fully embracing blockchain technology. Education will be key so that industries can understand the potential, however, the openness of Southampton to taking this first step, is very encouraging.
Southampton Football Club’s commercial director, David Thomas, said: “We are extremely pleased to be welcoming eToro as a club partner.
