Saints progressed to the knockout stages as Group B winners, overcoming Chelsea, Everton, and Derby County with an unbeaten group stage performance.

Since the competition's introduction in the 2017/18 season, Saints have never reached the knockout stages; this year's progress is already their best-ever record in the tournament.

Aston Villa are also enjoying their best display in the competition as they too have never reached the knockout stages before.

In Group C, two wins and one defeat were enough to see the Villans advance in top spot as they impressively knocked out Newcastle, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

This is the third time that both sides have met this season, as a dramatic opening day draw was followed with the recent FA Youth Cup fourth round fixture.

Saints ran out 4-1 winners at Villa Park just three weeks ago thanks two braces from Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Tyler Dibling.
