To celebrate the launch of Southampton's fearless new 2022/23 kit, the club has been exploring some of the boldest and bravest Saints fan stories for a new docuseries.
In our final episode, we discover what bravery means to passionate junior Saints fan, Dannon, who was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder called selective mutism at the age of just four years old.
Something Dannon believes makes every day a test of his courage.
“Bravery is doing something you’re scared to do and not giving up. I am brave every day because I have selective mutism and sometimes the words just don’t come out,” he says.
In the episode, we also hear from Dannon’s mum Sarah as well as from Laura Rushworth, a Selective Mutism Therapist at Confident Children.
Believed to affect around one in 140 young children, selective mutism is a fear or phobia of talking in certain situations where the expectation to talk can trigger a freeze response in the brain, making saying anything at all an impossibility.
Watch what happened when Dannon got the chance to bravely walk out on the hallowed St Mary’s turf for a kick-about with first-team players Jack Stephens, Adam Armstrong and Lyanco.
