Southampton FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of former Oxford United forward Beth Lumsden ahead of the 2022/23 Barclays Women’s Championship season.

The attacker played a crucial part in the U’s clinching of second place in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier, just behind Saints.

Lumsden will certainly be fresh in the minds of Saints fans who made the trip to Court Place Farm, as the striker cancelled out Katie Rood’s opening goal, setting the tone for what would be an entertaining 3-3 draw.

She made 33 appearances for the U’s over the 2021/22 season, scoring 27 goals and scooping eight opposition player of the match accolades. During her time there, she also spent time training with Karl Robinson’s League One men’s first team.

Prior to joining Oxford United last season, Lumsden spent two seasons with Barclays Women’s Championship side Charlton Athletic, having joined the club from Millwall Lionesses.

Despite her age, Lumsden brings a wealth of experience to the side, having come up through the Arsenal academy system as well as spending time with Chelsea, and will no doubt provide another exciting facet to Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s squad.

Talking about the newest member of her Saints side, Spacey-Cale said:

"Beth is going to bring a different element coming forwards. She’s a striker who can play in behind, she can come and receive to feet. She’s direct and she likes to take players on. She’s got all of the elements of a striker that you want and that will give us a different dimension going forward. She’s really excited to be here."
