Female participants from across the generations talked shared experiences and ways to level the playing field.

Saints Foundation Inclusion Coordinator and Saints Women’s captain Shannon Sievwright organised for participants from three different Saints Foundation projects to visit St Mary’s Stadium for a fun and friendly open discussion session.

Attendees included 11 to 15-year-old girls on the female empowerment project Premier League Changemakers; participants engaging with Saints4Sport’s female-only exercise classes; and women over 65 who exercise and socialise at the Foundation’s Senior Saints sessions.

They were joined by Georgie Freeland and Sara Luce from the Saints Women squad, who shared their own experiences of being women in sport.

“I feel like the participants really gained a lot of valuable information from it,” Shannon told us. “Throughout they grew in confidence – especially the Premier League Changemakers participants, engaging with older participants, I think that’s great for their personal development.

“Also, just sharing stories – I took a step back at one point just to hear all the conversations that were going on, and I was just so proud to hear that.”

The event’s attendees were all invited to attend Saints Women’s upcoming south coast derby against Portsmouth Women, which will be played at St Mary’s on Wednesday. Changemakers participants will form the players’ guard of honour and there will be pre-match fundraising around the stadium.
