Southampton’s ePremier League representatives narrowly missed out on the knockout stages of the competition after finishing third in the Group C standings.

The EA Sports FIFA 22 tournament saw 40 competitors representing all 20 Premier League clubs to battle it out for ePL glory.

Each team had an Xbox and PlayStation player, with 16-year-old Robbie Wilson competing in the Xbox side and Michael Fisher on the PlayStation for Saints.

Drawn in Group C alongside Wolves, Crystal Palace, Leeds and Manchester United, Wilson and Fisher claimed a vital victory over Wolves in their opening game.

Wilson finished 1-1 in the Xbox match-up, while Michael Fisher delivered the goods in the second leg to see Saints win 3-2 on aggregate.

The second match of the day told a different tale, with Crystal Palace emerging 7-1 victors over both legs.

Determined not to be put off by their previous defeat, Wilson and Fisher bounced back in their penultimate match against Leeds.

It was a massive result for the Saints, with Wilson pulling off a shock 1-0 win over 2020/21 ePL runner-up Ollelito before Fisher drew 2-2 in the second leg.

Heading into the final game of the day, Crystal Palace and Leeds both sat on nine points at the top of Group C leaving Saints with the near impossible task of winning by ten goals or more in their final match against Manchester United to earn their place in the final eight.

Both Wilson and Fisher claimed draws with United, meaning their ePL 2022 campaign came to a close, finishing third in Group C on seven points.
