Goals either side of half-time from Ché Adams and Oriol Romeu claimed a 2-0 win over Norwich at St Mary’s and left manager Ralph Hasenhüttl impressed by the performance.

Moving five unbeaten in the Premier League and up to ninth in the table before the weekend’s fixtures, the Saints boss was left to reflect on back-to-back home victories.

“I’m very pleased because we had a tough opponent,” he said. “These are always the toughest wins against the team where everybody expects you to do it.

“But I must say, I’m very happy about the performance from us and the performance from the crowd.

“They really, really supported us the whole game and also when we were a little bit struggling in the second half, there was no worry and that helps us, definitely.

“This new togetherness can bring us to this position we are in at the moment, that we are hard to beat.”

With 35 points on the board and two out of the next three league matches falling at St Mary’s, Hasenhüttl is keen to maintain the momentum into the closing stages of the season.

“To have 35 points at this time of year is fantastic and you can feel we are in good shape and we want to have more.

“We know about the schedule we have, the home games coming up with chances to win, but you have to take those wins and this has to be the next step.”
