Lyanco ruled out

Lyanco and Nathan Tella will not be available for Southampton’s midweek trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, Ralph Hasenhüttl has confirmed.

Lyanco sustained a hamstring injury after just 33 minutes in Saints’ Emirates FA Cup victory over Coventry on Saturday, while Tella continues to recover from a groin injury.

“Lyanco is definitely out for 8-12 weeks, hopefully not too long. It’s the same injury as Jack Stephens had a few weeks ago so this is more serious.

“It’s a pity for him because I think he was in very good shape and he enjoyed learning and was getting better and better every week. It’s a little bit of a setback but he will come back stronger and hopefully he’s keeping his head up.

“Nathan needs a little bit more time. Hopefully at the beginning of next week he comes back and trains with the team.”

There is some positive news for Saints, though, as Armando Broja’s injury looks to be less of a concern.

“[Broja] is not training yesterday, not training on Sunday. We will have a look at how he is today, it’s possible that he is available for tomorrow. We don’t know yet, we want to give him time to recover and then we’ll have a look.”
