Carl Martin’s side have been in fine form in recent weeks with them currently on a six-match unbeaten streak.

The visitors have already faced two opponents on the road to the third round of the FA Youth Cup.

Having secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Burton Albion in the first, they then went on to claim a 2-1 win over Aylestone Park in the second.

Southampton’s first team last faced Sheffield Wednesday back in September 2012, where they emerged 2-0 victors in their League Cup tie.

Two goals from Jay Rodriguez saw Saints progress to the last sixteen of the competition.

“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Individual Player Coach Mikey Harris. “The boys are obviously excited.

“It’s an incredible experience for them to play under the lights at St Mary’s but one we’re looking forward to and the boys are well prepared for.

“The boys, generally speaking, are playing at training grounds in front of a few parents or in some cases in recent months, no-one.

“To have a crowd here and a bit of atmosphere will be part of their experience and part of their development so hopefully we’ll have a good turn out and we can get a positive result and positive performance.”
