Scotland secured home advantage for March’s World Cup play-off semi-final with an impressive 2-0 win over Denmark on Monday night, with Ché Adams on target for a second successive match.

Hosting Group F winners Denmark at Hampden Park, Steve Clarke’s side inflicted a first group stage defeat on the Dane’s and recorded their sixth straight victory for the first time in competitive games since 1930.

Already guaranteed a spot in the play-offs for the chance to reach next summer’s World Cup after Saturday’s win over Moldova, the hosts held a 1-0 lead at the halfway stage thanks to John Souttar’s header.

With four minutes remaining, Stuart Armstrong – who was introduced from the bench – played a cutting through ball for his Saints teammate to run onto and coolly dispatch to send the home crowd into pandemonium.

Now guaranteed home advantage for next year’s one-legged play-off semi-final, both Armstrong and Adams will now return to Staplewood in buoyant mood.

Elsewhere, Poland rounded off their group stage campaign with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hungary.

Jan Bednarek was unable to prevent just a second loss of the campaign, with Poland now similarly heading into March’s World Cup play-off semi-finals.
