Arriving from Blackburn Rovers, prolific striker Adam Armstrong provides a huge boost to Southampton's ranks ahead of the Premier League kicking off this weekend.

The Newcastle-born forward was integral to Blackburn’s attack in recent years, racking up 49 goals in 130 appearances for the Lancashire side.

Joining Newcastle United at just nine-years-old, Armstrong worked his way through the academy before making his professional debut as an 86th minute substitute for Luuk de Jong in Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Fulham in March 2014.

2015 saw the start of a series of loan spells for Armstrong, his first being an electric season at Coventry City.

Scoring five goals in his first five games for the club, Armstrong was named in the PFA Team of the Year for League One, totalling 20 goals in 40 matches for the Midlands outfit.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a few more loan spells, before finding a more permanent role at Blackburn Rovers in 2018.

Armstrong played a pivotal role in Blackburn’s development, helping them secure promotion to the EFL Championship at the first time of asking.

Scoring 29 goals in 43 appearances last season alone, Armstrong was named the Championship’s PFA Player of the Year.

With opening day at Goodison Park fast approaching, Ralph Hasenhüttl will be looking to Saints' latest arrival to make an instant impact in red and white.
