Walcott and Ings in contention to face Burnley
Southampton duo Theo Walcott and Danny Ings have returned to training and could be in contention to feature against Burnley at St Mary’s on Easter Sunday.
Hasenhüttl said he was pleased with the attitude and work ethic of his players who were not called up by their countries over the international break, as training continued as normal at Staplewood.
Saints now return to Premier League action after a three-week absence from the competition, facing a Burnley side who have an identical record of 33 points from 29 matches so far this season.
“These guys are training now with the team for more than one week,” Hasenhüttl said of Ings and Walcott.
“They are on a good way back, we can feel that there are more and more players coming back, so this is good news.
“Especially the last two weeks we had a very good time with the guys that have stayed here, a few good sessions, and most of them did a good job. I was happy with the attitude and the workload.”
Hasenhüttl’s only new injury concern is to captain James Ward-Prowse, who missed England’s midweek victory over Poland with a calf problem.
“Prowsey had a little bit of problems with his calf, so he missed the third [England] game, and he is still not training,” he added.
“Also today we rest him, but hopefully tomorrow he is so far so good and he can train with the team and be an option for the weekend.”
