Midfielder Oriol Romeu has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a fractured ankle.

The 29-year-old was forced off in the 70th minute of Tuesday night’s loss at Leeds and after further investigation will require surgery.

Proving to be a costly visit to West Yorkshire, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl also confirmed Takumi Minamino will miss Monday’s clash with Everton due to an injury picked up at Elland Road.

Commenting on his growing injury list, Hasenhüttl said: “Ori Romeu’s season is over. He will have surgery on Monday, which means three months out.

He has a fracture on his ankle and definitely the season is over for him.

“Taki has a slight hamstring problem but can maybe come back next week as it’s not a big injury.

“We rested him from the beginning [at Leeds] because we knew three games in a week would be too much for him having not played much, but then it was very slippery and after his first movement he struggled with his hamstring.

“He finished the game as we couldn’t change anymore [players], but it’s not perfect. Also Ibra [Diallo], Kyle Walker-Peters, Theo [Walcott], Obafemi and Smallbone are also injured.”
