Ralph Hasenhüttl said that Southampton must draw on previous experience to "stand up again" in the wake of a second 9-0 Premier League defeat, this time at the hands of Manchester United.

Saints have been in this position previously, and must now summon all their resolve to find a reaction against Newcastle United this coming weekend, the manager asserted.

Injuries, and now additional suspensions, are another concern for Hasenhüttl, ahead of the trip to St James' Park in four days' time, but he said he and his side will be prepared to stand up to the task.

"A horrible start. A horrible finish," he said. "Obviously it's very disappointing that we've lost Jan [Bednarek] with the red card also.

"Too easy, how they can score. For 20 minutes in the second half we did it very good, but then conceding five goals in 15 minutes – it's too easy.

"Although we are two men down, there must be more fight. We tried to defend, but it's clear when you have 90 minutes here to work against the ball it's difficult.

"We have this experience before in the Premier League, conceding nine goals. It was again nine, what can I say? It's very disappointing and frustrating but we've stood up once, we'll stand up again.

"In the moment, I must look with what players I do this with. We know the problems we have with injuries. The Premier League is brutal.

"We have a game on Saturday and we must show a reaction, but it's a little bit too early to talk about that yet."
