Youngster Nathan Tella saw the rewards of his self-proclaimed extra work on finishing after his four goals helped Southampton’s B team to a 5-2 win over Leicester City.

Tella’s first came after just seven minutes, linking with Will Smallbone and Tyreke Johnson to slot home comfortably.

The rampage continued following Leicester’s equaliser with a penalty alongside two well taken finishes coming off of the left wing.

Saints’ winger was understandably delighted with the performance.

“Happy that the team played the passes and I got into the positions,” he said. “It’s something that I’ve been working on my finishing and luckily today it was one of those days where everything went to plan so I’m just grateful for that.

I want to keep playing, play as much football as I can.

“It’s been quite a difficult and indifferent season for the 23s in terms of the fact we’ve had a lot of boys in with the first team, including myself.

“But when we come down to play everyone knows what to do. We play the same, we train the same.

“It’s like a glove, everyone knows what to do and their own roles and responsibilities.

“The system is good because at the end of the day it’s all about experience. Whatever I learn up with the first team I can use here.

“We play the same system so it’s nothing too different and today it clicked and as you can see we got a good result.

“As a team we knew they’d come out first 15 minutes of the second half and that would be crucial in terms of killing their momentum.

“Even though they scored we still killed that momentum. We didn’t have much of the ball but I think that second half was just a case of maintaining of what we had done in the first half and see out the game.”
