Southampton’s B team coach Dave Horseman hailed his side clinical first-half performance which saw Leicester City defeated 5-2 at Snows Stadium.

The star of the show was Nathan Tella, who grabbed himself four goals in a barnstorming first half, rounded off by a further effort from Tyreke Johnson on the stroke of half-time.

Leicester showed very little signs of a serious comeback in the second half despite an early Demarai Gray goal, thanks to defensive steel of Horseman’s team as they showed another side of their game.

I think we deserved it not necessarily just based on today,” said Horseman, “but throughout the season.

“We’ve played so many games where that could have happened on numerous occasions and luckily today it dropped.

the buy in from the boys, the staff, everybody, in what we're doing is there.

“It definitely helps when you’ve got some of the boys who have trained this morning with the first team come across and play. They showed such a good attitude.

“I just said to the boys I’m really proud of them. Not just for today but for the first half of the season.

“Although the points don’t reflect our performances, there are times – like the first half today – that really show how good the group is, how good the philosophy of the first team and the B team can work against some opponents and how good some of the players are.

“The boys train high quality sessions with the first team every day and I think it showed today.

“They were so much more clinical today, direct, it was brilliant from them.”
