Southampton’s B team return to Snows Stadium this weekend, with the visit of Leicester City in Premier League 2.
THE MATCH
Saints B vs Leicester City
Premier League 2
Snows Stadium
Saturday 12 December, 2pm GMT
Dave Horseman’s side will look to bounce back from defeat at Manchester United last-time-out with a return to Snows Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite showing positives signs throughout the game and looking the more likely to score during the opening stages, Saints fell to a 3-1 defeat last Friday at Leigh Sports Village.
Michael Obafemi scored the only goal of the game for the visitors, who will have felt hard done-by without any reward for their performance.
Leicester also tasted defeat during their last outing; a narrow 2-1 loss away at Chelsea on the same evening, with Henry Lawrence grabbing the winner for the hosts two minutes from time.
LAST MEETING
Leicester’s visit to Staplewood on the 2nd March 2020 turned out to be the last fixture of the 2019/20 campaign after the fixtures were suspended.
The Saints side, which included first-team regulars Oriol Romeu and Ché Adams, took the lead through Adams in the 24th minute.
But the Foxes fought back, equaliser just four minutes later through Callum Wright, before George Hirst put his side ahead just past the half hour mark.
The points were sealed in the fifth minute of stoppage time, substitute Conor Tee scoring after coming on just two minutes prior.
MANAGER’S NOTES
Horseman was left frustrated after the United defeat on Friday but saw Saturday’s visit of Leicester as another opportunity.
“Like every game in this league it’ll be tough,” he said. “They’re really well organised and have an excellent coach there.
“They’re on a bit of form at the moment, beat Tottenham 5-1 last week who had Danny Rose and few others involved.
“Obviously they're a tough team but there’s nobody we’re worried about. But we have to do better, both ends of the pitch.
“Playing out, defending in and around our box, particularly against teams who want to turn us around.
“Then when the opportunities arise we need clarity. To make sure we take the chances we’re carving out at the moment.”
