Southampton Under-18s manager Paul Hardyman was pleased with his side’s performance in the 3-1 FA Youth Cup win over Coventry City.

Goals from Kazeem Olaigbe, Sam Bellis and Kegs Chauke ensured cup progression at St Mary’s, leaving Hardyman in buoyant mood.

“We were a little bit sloppy with the ball in the first half, and not really working as well as we had done on the training ground with some of the bits.

“But in the second half the lads took the information on and went out and delivered a solid performance.

“We scored three good goals and another bit for me was keeping a clean sheet, so I’m really pleased with that as well.

“Something that we’ve spoken to the boys about is you build memories from bits like his.

“Some of the lads will go on to have long professional careers, but some might not and days like this they will always remember for the rest of their lives.

“Last year we beat Bristol Rovers and then drew Arsenal and it still gripes me that we should have won but lost 1-0.

“Little bits stick in your mind. It would be lovely for the club to go on and have a decent cup run.”
