Last week, Saints Foundation joined forces with local restaurants to hand out hot meals at two schools in Southampton, supplying their communities for half term.
Southampton restaurants Lakaz Maman and Kuti’s Brasserie generously provided hundreds of hot meals for children and their families to enjoy.
The delicious food was handed out at our community restaurants, which were hosted by Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill and Chamberlayne College for the Arts. Food safety equipment and PPE were donated by City Catering and A&A Business Supplies to keep the restaurants safe and COVID-secure.
“Thank you to the local businesses and schools that came together for this inspiring project,” said Greg Baker, Head of Saints Foundation. “It’s great to see the positive impact of such a collaborative community effort.”
Shelina Permalloo, owner of Lakaz Maman and winner of BBC Masterchef, said: “When I heard that there was a possibility that there would be school kids going hungry during half term on my doorstep in Southampton during half term, it was a no brainer.
“We ordered more stock and got the message out that we would stand with Marcus Rashford and his campaign to make sure no kid goes hungry. We managed to feed over 350 kids in a week, and I would do it again in a blink.
“As business owners, we have a responsibility to step in when justice isn’t being served to our community. I’m proud of the collective effort of our city as business owners rallied together to support our kids in our city.”
