Marieanne Spacey-Cale was in a philosophical mood following her side’s FA Cup win over Ilminster Town on Sunday afternoon.
Captain on the day Phoebe Williams opened the scoring midway through the first half, before birthday girl Alisha Ware added a double either side of the interval.
The scoring was rounded off by Ella Pusey 18 minutes from time as Saints secured their first-round progression for a second successive season.
However Spacey-Cale said following the game there was still areas to improve on despite the dominant-looking score line.
“I thought in patches we played some really nice football,” she said. “But made it hard for ourselves in the second half and took our foot off the gas.
“We gave them a feeling that they could get back into the game. But, like I said, in parts we played some really nice football and obviously scored some really nice goals.”
Marieanne Spacey-CaleFor us we're in the hat, which is the most important thing and we want to keep the momentum of the FA Cup run going.
Southampton FC Women's Head Coach
“For me it was just a little bit disappointing how we finished the game, but we have to take the conditions into play and credit to the opposition. They had a change of formation and we couldn’t quite break that down.
“You always look as the FA Cup as your opportunity to come up against some of the bigger teams to see where you’re at.
“I felt this was a good performance from us against a team in the league below who beat a team in our league, so it was a slightly different challenge.
“We weren’t at our best but still got the result so it shows we can win in different ways, but as you go up and play teams in higher tiers we’ve got to be better than that.”
