Saints fall to opening day defeat

Southampton began their 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Wilfried Zaha’s early strike proved to be enough for the hosts, with Vicente Guaita denying Ché Adams, Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings with a string of fine saves in the second half.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side will now head into a double game week.

Carabao Cup campaign begins

Saints’ Carabao Cup campaign gets underway on Wednesday with Brentford the visitors to St Mary’s Stadium.

The second round clash will be the first time the two sides have met since 2011, when Southampton ran out 3-0 victors in League One.

The winner will head to either West Brom or Harrogate Town in the next round.

Saints live on BT Sport on Sunday

Southampton host Tottenham in their first Premier League home match of the season on Sunday, with the game to be shown live on BT Sport.

Both sides suffered defeat on the opening day, with Spurs losing 1-0 to Everton.

Kicking off at midday, the clash will see Kyle Walker-Peters face his former employers, whilst Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will return to St Mary’s for the first time since heading in the opposite direction.
