It’s the last week of the Premier League season, nearly a whole year since the campaign got under way last August. Begin your countdown to the final day with our Monday Briefing…
Saints go six unbeaten
It was another productive week for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team, who took five points from three games in the space of seven days.
After rescuing a last-gasp draw at Manchester United, Saints again came from behind to take a point at home to Brighton, before securing a ninth away win of the campaign at Bournemouth.
It’s the first time the team have gone six games unbeaten under Hasenhüttl, helping achieve a club record 31 points on the road in the process.
Blades await on final day
Saints can end the season a magnificent seven unbeaten by avoiding defeat against Sheffield United at St Mary’s on Sunday (kick-off 4pm BST).
Victory would see Saints finish on 52 points, guaranteeing an 11th-placed finish – unless Everton finish with back-to-back wins.
The Toffees are currently three points worse off with a game in hand. Their last two opponents are the same as Saints’ – Sheffield United away tonight and Bournemouth at home on the final day.
Ings still alive in Golden Boot race
It was a mixed day for Danny Ings against his former club on Sunday.
After breaking the deadlock shortly before the interval, the striker spurned the chance to score again when his second-half penalty was saved by Aaron Ramsdale.
With Jamie Vardy (23) failing to score against Tottenham, Ings (21) is two behind the Golden Boot race leader going into the final round of fixtures, though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (20) and Mohamed Salah (19) both have a game in hand.
