Saints trio remain sidelined

Ralph Hasenhüttl says the end of the season could come too soon for Southampton’s injured trio Moussa Djenepo, Sofiane Boufal and Yan Valery.

The manager is hopeful Jannik Vestergaard will recover from a thigh problem to return to the squad against Manchester United on Monday.

But Hasenhüttl was less confident on Djenepo, Boufal and Valery – particularly given the tight turnaround to next season.

“With muscle injuries you can never be sure,” he said.

“It’s too high risk, because we don’t have a long break until the next season, so they can’t take six weeks off to recover.

“It is good for us to keep an eye on them and don’t push them too hard to come back.

Otherwise it’s a clean bill of health for the boss, with every player coming through last night’s 1-1 draw at Everton unscathed.
