We’re into June and Premier League football is on its way back! Our Monday Briefing is the only place to catch up on every development across all levels of Southampton Football Club…

Provisional start date confirmed

Premier League Shareholders have agreed to a new provisional restart date for the 2019/20 season of Wednesday 17th June, provided that all safety requirements are in place.

Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Manchester City vs Arsenal – postponed due to the EFL Cup final – will now take place on June 17th, followed by a full match round beginning on Friday 19th June. Due to COVID-19, games will take place behind closed doors.

Premier League Shareholders also approved a proposal that would see all 92 remaining matches broadcast live in the UK by the League’s existing broadcast partners: Sky Sports, BT Sport, BBC Sport and Amazon Prime.

Information for ticket holders

Southampton Football Club has provided an update to its valued ticket holders and hospitality guests.

The club appreciates the uncertainty its supporters are facing at these times, and is extremely grateful for the patience, understanding and commitment that fans have shown while the 2019/20 campaign has been put on hold.

Whether you are an individual match ticket purchaser, hospitality purchaser or Season Ticket holder, information on refunds is available here.

Contact training returns

Premier League Shareholders voted unanimously to resume contact training, meaning squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact.

The Premier League’s priority is the health and wellbeing of all participants. Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.

Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol has been agreed following consultation with clubs, players, managers, the PFA, LMA and the Government. Check out the best images from our latest gallery here.

Ella Morris voted Player of the Season

Southampton FC Women’s young full-back Ella Morris has been voted Player of the Season by supporters for the 2019/20 season.

Scooping 19% of the votes, Morris claimed her second award of the campaign having also been voted the Players’ Player of the Season.

The defender finished first on the vote put out to staff and fans, followed by midfielder Shannon Sievwright and sister Caitlin Morris in second and third respectively.

Women take part in Wow Hydrate trial

Southampton FC Women took part in a product trial with Official Sports Hydration Partner Wow Hydrate.

The study looked at how Wow Hydrate Protein can aid the players' post-training recovery and building of muscle strength.

As well as enjoying the drink, the first team players saw an increase in protein intake throughout the day, as well as an increase in muscle mass.

Benali reveals top teammates

Join us at The Isolate Inn, brought to you by Kingfisher, as Tom Deacon meets Saints legends in our virtual pub.

In the latest episode, Franny Benali joins Tom to discuss the defender's favourite former teammates from across his Saints career.

Benali reveals which of Matt Le Tissier's goals he enjoyed the most, and which of his former managers would be keeping them in check.

Le Tissier tests his knowledge

Our virtual pub also hosted Matt Le Tissier last week, who took on Saints fan Callum in a head-to-head quiz.

You’d think Matt might be at an unfair advantage, with questions focusing on Le God’s playing career with Southampton, but it was a close-run thing!

Check out the video below to see who came out on top.

Big Bike Challenge returns

Southampton supporters can join our Big Bike Challenge riders, as they embark on our cycle challenge for Saints Foundation throughout the month of June.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic both our UK and European Big Bike Challenge rides – scheduled for May and June 2020 – have been postponed. So, we are challenging our riders to take on a solo challenge next month.

Those taking on the challenge will be riding 600 miles, the length of the European ride, or a shorter distance of 300 miles, during the month of June. Click here for information on how to take part.

Saints Foundation support Connecting Generations

Keeping people connected, Saints Foundation is proud to support the Premier League’s campaign, Connecting Generations.

We are encouraging school children to write letters to isolated older relatives, family friends and neighbours to keep them engaged and in touch with people during this difficult time.

How the school children write and design their letters is up to them, be it drawing a picture, writing a story or simply showing that their older adult is thought of. Further information on this uplifting initiative and letter templates to download are available here.
