Alongside the amazing achievements of Club Ambassador Franny Benali, 28 staff and players also took part in the 2.6 Challenge on Sunday afternoon - a nationwide campaign to raise vital funds for UK charities.

Members of the Southampton FC Women's squad, led by Head Coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE, did their bit by collectively running, riding, rowing or walking a communal 26.2 miles.

The challenge was born out of the need to bolster the UK charity sector following the Coronavirus outbreak - which has affected the ability to fundraise significantly - and took place on the day that the London Marathon had officially been scheduled for.

Staff and players alike took part, each tackling their own version of the challenge, which saw Spacey-Cale row for 26.2 minutes, General Manager Martina Heath cycle for 26.2 kilometres, and various coaches and players take to the roads, running a variety of distances.

The squad, to add to Benali's £14,000, raised over £500 for the pot, which will be split between Saints Foundation's community initiatives and outreach programmes, as well as NHS Charities Together, who are leading the fight against COVID-19.
