Southampton FC has joined forces with other football clubs to celebrate the Level Playing Field Weeks of Action.

The initiative was set-up to celebrate the positive work undertaken by clubs, sporting venues, and their governing bodies in partnership with disabled sports fans and disabled supporters’ associations.

Level Playing Field’s Weeks of Action are an annual period of inspiration and celebration of good access and inclusion at sports venues.

Saints provide numerous services to help make matchdays accessible to all fans, including commentary, a sensory room and the dial-a-ride service.

Firstly, the audio description service at St Mary’s for blind or partially sighted supporters is now in its second season.

All commentators are trained to the highest standard to deliver not only the match’s key moments but the colour of every aspect of the 90 minutes.

The easy-to-use receivers are available for both home and away fans, so listeners can get the full picture of the action from wherever they sit at St Mary’s.

The service – provided by Alan March Sport and replicated at Wembley Stadium – is free of charge. If you’d like to utilise this service or find out more you can contact the club via [email protected]

Another initiative that has been popular has been the sensory room. It’s proved to be a rewarding scheme with the space already sold out for the remaining games of the 2019/20 season.

The facility was set-up to provide the opportunity to work with individuals and families that may never have been able to experience the drama of a football match at St Mary’s before.

If you’d like to know about how you can register your interest for next season, please use the email address above.

There is also the dial-a-ride service that Saints funds through 1 Community, with membership costing nothing to those attending first-team home matches.

The service means the supporter and their enabler are collected from their home and taken to St Mary’s in accessible vehicles.

To use this service, you are required to have first-team match tickets and to book your space a minimum of three days before the fixture you wish to attend.

For further details on Dial-a-ride membership and how to book your matchday travel, please contact 1 Community directly on 023 8090 2400.

As always, the club wants to work with its fans to ensure that disabled supporters get all the information they require and to know that the services provided meet their needs

If you wish to provide feedback, want to know more information as a home or away supporter or want to make contact you can email [email protected]
