The manager has hinted that both Moussa Djenepo and Danny Ings are in line to return to the starting XI on Saturday, as Saints prepare for the visit of Newcastle United.
The winger missed last week’s trip to the capital, following a family bereavement, but has since returned to Staplewood, while caution was exercised over Ings after an intense period of games.
Both are likely to be available, although Stuart Armstrong will miss out having suffered concussion against West Ham. Young midfielder Will Smallbone will be absent through illness.
“We have a few problems, especially in the No.10 position,” Hasenhüttl confirmed. “Last week in the game Stu [Armstrong] got concussion after two minutes but played the game.
“Now he’s been out all week, couldn’t train, because he had symptoms. He has to take a break.
“Will Smallbone is sick and hasn’t trained all week so he won’t be available. Still Reddie is out, but Moussa is back. He seems to be in a better mode now.
“It wasn’t easy for him, but we’re trying to help him as much as we can. Let’s have a look what we do.
“Moussa is starting to get his laughter back again, he was not really in a good place after he came back but now it’s getting better and better.
“It was good that he [Danny Ings] was rested last week because the risk was too high. It was a good decision, although we missed him a little bit. He’s absolutely hungry to score again.”
