Southampton FC Women travel to Sunderland this weekend, for WNL Cup semi-final action on Sunday (2pm GMT).
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side are bidding to reach their second final in as many months, after booking their Hampshire Cup final place at the end of January.
Saints ran out 6-0 winners over Moneyfields on the 29th to set up a Hampshire Cup final place in March, with their opponents yet to be determined.
Sunday’s meeting with Sunderland was secured by Saints at the start of the month, following a 2-0 win over south coast rivals Portsmouth courtesy of a double from Ella Pusey.
Sunderland are enjoying a similarly successful season to Saints; leading the third tier table and unbeaten having won ten of the eleven games played.
“They’re one of the top teams in the country, said Spacey-Cale. “They’re not in the WSL purely off of pitch criteria, not on their talent.
“Mel [Copeland] is a very, very good coach. She’s retained a lot of the talent she could have retained due to the off-pitch criteria.
“So that will be a real tough challenge but that is the type of team we want to test ourselves against.
“This is a different experience and wets the appetite for what the future could bring.”
Tickets for the semi-final are available on the gate at Eppleton Colliery Welfare priced as follows:
£3 for adults
£1 for concession
