Midfielder Stuart Armstrong is recovering from a hip injury quicker than expected, but is still unlikely to return for Southampton's FA Cup fourth round replay at Tottenham on Wednesday.
Facing a spell on the sidelines after limping out of the original FA cup tie between the two sides 10 days ago, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl revealed Armstrong could be back in contention sooner than anticipated.
“Stuart is ahead of schedule,” he said. “He could maybe be fit quicker than we think, but fit for Wednesday, I don’t think so.”
Elsewhere, Hasenhüttl will assess the fitness of his squad on Tuesday afternoon prior to selecting his matchday squad for the trip to North London.
“I haven’t seen the group yet, we train in the afternoon and we must have a look at how they are and how they feel.
“They invested a lot at the weekend so we must look at how fresh they are and how fit they are and then decide [who will play].”
