Saints battle back to earn FA Cup replay

Southampton ensured they’d at least be in the hat for the fifth round FA Cup draw by earning a 1-1 draw against Tottenham at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Heung-Min Son’s second half strike looked like it had given the visitors cup progression, but substitute Sofiane Boufal struck three minutes from time to force a replay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The replay will take place on Wednesday 5th February, subject to FA approval, with a kick-off time to be confirmed.

Fifth round FA Cup draw

The FA Cup fifth round draw will begin at 7.19pm GMT live on BBC One tonight.

Southampton and Tottenham will share ball number three, with ties to be played in midweek during the week commencing Monday 2nd March.

Any ties level after 90 minutes will progress to extra-time and, if necessary, penalties to determine a winner.

Trip to league leaders next up

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side turn their attention back to the Premier League on Saturday with a trip to top of the table Liverpool.

The Reds remain unbeaten in 2019/20 with Saints looking to continue their resurgent form that has seen them rise up to ninth in the table.

Southampton will be backed by a sold out away following, looking to extend their run of four consecutive away victories in the league.

Women’s team set new attendance record

Southampton FC Women attracted a club record attendance for their FA Cup tie against Coventry United on Sunday.

Part of an FA Cup double-header at St Mary’s, a crowd of 4,510 watched on as Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side went toe-to-toe with their opponents who sit two divisions higher in the league pyramid.

Rachel Panting scored a consolation in the 4-1 defeat, as attention now turns to their Hampshire Senior Cup semi-final at Moneyfields on Wednesday.

Under-23s in Hampshire Cup action

Saints Under-23s make the short trip to AFC Totton on Tuesday night in the Hampshire Senior Cup (7.45pm GMT).

Now into the quarter-final stage, Dave Horseman’s side will look to build on the emphatic 3-0 win over the Royal Navy in the last round.

TV selection for March

Southampton’s home game against Arsenal has been moved to the new date of Sunday 22nd March, at 4.30pm GMT, with Sky Sports broadcasting the match.

The game, which had been originally scheduled to take place the day before, remains subject to change depending on both clubs’ progress in the FA Cup, with the quarter-finals of the competition also set for that weekend.
