In a return to competitive action following the Scottish winter break, Fraser Forster helped Celtic advance to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win at Partick Thistle.

In action for the first time since the end of December, Neil Lennon’s side secured a 32nd consecutive win in domestic cup competition thanks to strikes from Leigh Griffiths and Callum McGregor.

Completing 90 minutes between the sticks, Forster was only beaten from the spot deep into stoppage time as Stuart Bannigan converted from 12 yards.

Fellow Southampton loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi missed out once again with an ongoing foot injury.

In Europe, Mario Lemina helped Galatasaray resume their Süper Lig campaign with a 2-1 win over Denizlispor following the winter break.

Goals from Emre Akbaba and Radamel Falcao were enough for Fatih Terim’s side, moving them to within four points of the top four.

Elsewhere in Europe, it was a weekend to forget for both Welsey Hoedt and Guido Carrillo at Royal Antwerp and Léganes respectively.

Hoedt, who’s been a mainstay in the Antwerp side, was shown a red card after just seven minutes, although the 10-men did battle back to secure a 2-1 win over Club Brugge.

In La Liga, Léganes remained rooted in the relegation zone as Getafe CF came away with a resounding 3-0 win on Friday night.

Enjoying a more positive result was young defender Christoph Klarer, who scored in SKN St Pölten’s 4-0 friendly win over Horn.

Concluding the weekend’s action, Alfie Jones and Thomas O’Connor completed 90 minutes each in Gillingham’s 1-1 draw with Oxford, whilst also in League One, Jake Hesketh was an unused substitute for Lincoln’s 1-0 win over Blackpool.
