Saints begin FA Cup campaign with victory

Southampton cruised into the FA Cup fourth round with a comfortable 2-0 win over Championship outfit Huddersfield at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Taking the opportunity to rest a host of players after the hectic festive fixture schedule, Academy prospects Will Smallbone and Jake Vokins stole the show with a goal each.

Smallbone, who was making his senior debut, opened the scoring in the 47th minute before Vokins, who was handed a first start, confirmed the victory late on.

The result moves Saints to five games unbeaten, after Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side continued their impressive Premier League form with a 1-0 win over Tottenham on New Year’s Day.
