As Christmas approaches, get set for the week with the latest news from St Mary's and Staplewood in our Monday Briefing...

Saints valiant at Villa

Southampton secured an important three points in the Premier League with an emphatic 3-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Danny Ings became just the third Saints player to score 10 goals before the turn of the year in the Premier League as he grabbed a brace at Villa Park to move onto 13 goals in all competitions for the season.

Also on the score sheet was defender Jack Stephens, leaving Jack Grealish’s late strike as nothing more than a consolation for the hosts.

Victory in the Midlands lifted Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side out of the bottom three for Christmas, with the full report available here.

Attention turns to Chelsea

Next up, Southampton are on the road once again as they head to Chelsea on Boxing Day (kick-off 3pm GMT).

A sold out away end of 1,500 will be looking to help secure back-to-back Premier League wins, whilst Frank Lampard’s side will be hoping to build on their victory over Tottenham last time out.

Hasenhüttl's press conference

Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl will be addressing the media on Christmas Eve to preview Saints’ trip to Chelsea.

Taking place at 1.30pm GMT, you can watch live on southamptonfc.com or via Facebook and Twitter.
