Ralph Hasenhüttl was full of praise for Danny Ings after his brace helped Saints to a 3-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.
The striker scored either side of half-time to move onto 13 goals for this season in all competitions, in the process becoming just the third Southampton player to reach 10 Premier League goals before the turn of the year.
Joining the illustrious company of Matt Le Tissier and James Beattie in that exclusive club, Southampton’s manager was delighted with Ings’s performance at Villa Park.
“At the moment he has so much self-confidence when he is in the box.
“I’m happy for him, he works very hard and this is why he deserves to score at the moment. We all know it’s important that he is fit now and he helps us massively.”
Jack Stephens also got his name on the score sheet, with Hasenhüttl crediting his medical team for the defender’s involvement.
“Jack had a stiff neck yesterday so congrats to the physios who made him fit.
“Finally, we showed Jack a video before the game where he scored, so maybe he was motivated but it’s always good to have a defender who can score.”
