Ralph Hasenhüttl wants his side to seize the opportunity this weekend, with a win guaranteed to move Saints out of the Premier League bottom three.

Southampton head to Aston Villa on Saturday for their fifth successive fixture against a side in the bottom half of the table, with the Villains sitting one place above on goal difference.

Knowing the potential reward of a victory, Hasenhüttl has seen total belief from his players in the build-up.

“We must not look too far ahead, we have to stay with this game at the moment. There’s an opportunity and we must grab it.

“A cleansheet will help massively,” he said. “We always score away but sometimes one goal must be enough and that means you have to defend well.

“This is key to getting something and in the end, I think we’re so focused on what we’re doing and so convinced with what we are doing, we know we can take something there.”

Back on the road after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat home to West Ham, Hasenhüttls is looking for his side to make their own luck at Villa Park.

“We’ve had a good week, a good debrief after the last game where we can say some things we did well.

“Ingsy was unlucky in this game, and that’s the reason why we didn’t score.

“We had the chances in a big game to turn the table a little bit but we must force the luck in the next game.

“It’s the same important game like last one and now, when you play well, there’s more chance to take the three points there.”
