2019 has been another fantastic year for Saints Foundation with projects and landmark achievements helping us to continue transforming lives in the community.
Here are a few of our highlights:
2019 saw us continue our work with The Big Issue. Not only did they name us as one of 100 game-changers for the year, but we also created a bespoke Southampton edition of the national magazine written and produced by our secondary school participants within the city. In April they visited the magazine’s editorial headquarters in Glasgow, gaining expert insight from editor Paul McNamee before seeing their finished work printed and handed out around the city in May. The summer saw another huge success for our Big Bike Challenge. More than 50 riders took on the 260-mile three-day challenge from Huddersfield. They battled freezing conditions and torrential rain across the Peak District before thawing out on day two from Leicester to Reading. The third and final day saw them return home to St Mary’s to a warm welcome, safe in the knowledge they had raised more than £30,000 for our charity. We are running two challenges this year, giving every type of cyclist something to aim for. Sign up here
In August, Maya Yoshida announced that he would be donating 1% of his salary to Saints Foundation throughout the 2019/20 season. The impact of his generosity is already being felt as the donation has allowed us to fund our Para Football League for another year. Read all about Maya’s donation here.
October saw us welcome both Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse into the Foundation as our first two official ambassadors. They have already started visiting projects across the city and we are looking forward to their continued involvement in 2020. Read the full story here
