Cédric felt Southampton were worthy of all three points at Newcastle, despite the hosts coming back to inflict a first defeat in four games on Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.
Saints looked on course for a third successive Premier League win when Danny Ings netted his 11th of the campaign before the hour-mark.
However, Jonjo Shelvey equalised on 68 minutes before Federico Fernández stole the victory with just three minutes remaining.
Reflecting on what was a largely positive performance from the visitors, Cédric said: “Obviously we’re annoyed, because I think we deserved the three points here.
Cédric on saints' performance
We were the better team during the 90 minutes. We all worked very hard on the pitch and I think the team deserved better than the result.
“They got two goals out of nowhere – it wasn’t clear opportunities – whereas we had so many opportunities to score and to kill the game.”
Having won back-to-back home fixtures prior to the trip to the north-east, Southampton were unable to make it three straight league wins.
Focusing on the performance, Saints’ defender found plenty of hope from the overall display.
“That’s the way we want to go forward,” Cédric said. “Working like this, creating chances like this, controlling the game like this.
“It was a positive game here. Obviously, not the result we want but we will keep fighting and the last three games have shown what we want for this year.
“We have been much more organised and much better as a team. I think everyone is feeling much better and I think if we keep playing like this, we will get results in the future.”
