Hasenhüttl: Our start is key

Ralph Hasenhüttl wants to see Southampton get on the front foot against Leicester when the two teams go head to head at St Mary’s on Friday night.

Saints have taken only one point from their first four home games of the season, and not for the first time find themselves up against a contender for a top-four spot when the Foxes visit the south coast.

But Hasenhüttl believes the key to the game is for his side to score first – something they haven’t managed so far at St Mary’s in 2019/20.

“We must be aware about conceding goals early and getting on the back foot,” the manager said.

“This is something that has not happened so often in away games, and that’s the reason we’ve taken seven points (away) instead of one (at home).

“The key to a win is an early goal on our side, which can help us massively, but the most important thing is better commitment in our defence work.

“If we are doing this and find a good balance in our shape, I think we have a better chance.

“We know after the four games at home, taking only one point against Man United, it’s time for a committed performance.

“Committed means we want to show up and we need to have a good atmosphere from the stands, because that will help us.”
