Mohamed Elyounoussi continues to go from strength to strength as the winger scored twice to help Celtic return to the Scottish Premiership summit this weekend.

Southampton’s on-loan Norwegian opened his account for the club in the recent Europa League win over FC Cluj, and added two more goals to his tally in a 6-0 thrashing of Ross County on Saturday.

Elyounoussi top and tailed the scoring, while Fraser Forster kept a clean sheet at the other end.

Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Hearts on Sunday ensures Celtic are back on top by virtue of goals scored, with the two Glasgow rivals now level on points and goal difference after the six-goal swing.

In MLS play-off action, Josh Sims experienced a wide range of emotions in a thriller against Philadelphia Union.

It was the perfect start for Sims and co, as the Staplewood graduate broke the deadlock with his first goal for New York Red Bulls inside six minutes.

But the winger would have to leave the field through injury after 29 minutes, by which time his side led 2-0.

Despite finding themselves 3-1 ahead at the interval, the Red Bulls were eliminated 4-3 after extra time, as Philadelphia celebrated a famous victory that ends Sims’s season.

In Europe, Wesley Hoedt and Guido Carrillo both played 90 minutes but also suffered defeats, as Royal Antwerp and Léganes were on the receiving end in Belgium and Spain respectively, while Mario Lemina missed a 3-2 win for Galatasaray with injury.

Saints’ Gillingham duo Alfie Jones and Tom O’Connor lost 2-1 at home to high-flying Peterborough, while Harrison Reed also suffered a setback as Fulham were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by resurgent Stoke in the Championship.

Elsewhere, Jake Hesketh was an unused substitute as mid-table Lincoln were held by Shrewsbury in League One on Friday night, and Marcus Barnes hobbled off injured in another goalless draw, as Welling earned a replay to frustrate Eastleigh in FA Cup qualifying, with the first round draw taking place this evening.
